This is an honest review based on my experiences in 2Moons, having played it since launch and leveling well into the 100s.
2Moons is a "free to play" game (with optional cash shop) distributed by Acclaim Games. 2Moons is the North American version of Dekaron, a Korean game developed by GameHi, which also has a version released for Europe. This game has been out for a year and has recently had a major content update ("Action 4") from Dekaron Dil known as "Expedition" in 2Moons.
The Good:
Want to be a Bad-Ass?
What attracts most people to 2Moons is usually when they see the awesome looking character models with their glowing armor and when they see footage from the game. Simply put, the characters in this game look bad-ass. The armor has a unique-look unlike most MMOs out there. It is a "fantasy" setting, and there are swords and armor, no guns or anything sci-fi, but it has a distinctly different look and feel than the "medieval", Tolkein-esque games like World of Warcraft. There is an Asian influence, but it isn't anime, it's a look unique to itself. There is kind of a "demonic" theme, and two of the classes you can play are demons. Thereare many times playing this game where I was motivated to level just to get the incredible looking gear that you can get as you progress.
Another great thing about this game is the impressive looking skills. The skill animations are awesome, flashy and really make you feel powerful. Not only do they look cool, but the whole feel of combat is faster-paced in this game. Skills do have cool-downs and combat will be comfortable for those who are MMO veterans, but what makes the skills in 2Moons unique is that they are mostly instant-cast or very close to it. This makes combat closer to real-time, and it makes combat more interesting than pressing a button and waiting 3 seconds before anything happens. Every player gets area of effect damage skills (AoE's), making every class a damage-dealing class, which clearly distinguishes this game from any other. The combat is slow and pedestrian like any other MMO in the beginning when you have only one offensive skil to start with, but it picks up provided you have a little patience. By the time you pick up 4-5 damage skills (including an AoE or two), you will really get the feel of what combat in this game is about.
There are six classes in 2Moons (a seventh is in the most recent Korean Dekaron Dil content update, which has not been added to 2Moons yet). These classes are based loosely on the archetypes present in most MMOs. Bagi's = tanks, Knights = melee DPS, Incar Magicians = mage/wizard class DPS, Segita Hunters = ranged DPS, Vicious Summoners = DPS w/ pet mechanic, and Segnales = healers. SORT OF. As stated before, EVERY class can do damage. Some more so than others, and of course each class gets unique skills that add subtleties and uniqueness to each class, but this game isn't so much about building traditional balanced MMO archetypes for strategic battles, it is about ALL-OUT crazy combat with impressive looking skills flying every where. Even the "healing" class (Segnales) can dish out decent damage and have arguably the best AoE skill in the game (Curse Field). No MMO has a class quite like the Segnale where healers are not pigeon-holed, staring at health bars and standing in the back away from the action. Segnales are desirable for their healing, but in between heals, they are valuable damage dealers, just like every other class.
Because of the design of the combat in this game, there are many instances where 20-30 monsters will charge simultaneously at your six-person party in certain dungeons or in the popular Deadfront event which happens nightly six times a day. No other game provides the thrill and challenge of killing so many mobs at one time. It is exhilarating, and it keeps you on your toes.
Another emphasis and strong point of 2Moons is the PvP. 2Moons is an open PvP game except for in the starter areas which you will leave pretty quickly if you spend time playing this game in earnest. Once you are out in the wild, anyone can attack you any time they want. There are consequences for killing someone unprovoked (if they don't hit back) to add some restraint to player-killing. Open PvP can be frustrating because anyone can kill you at any time, but it adds an edge to gameplay not seen in many other games. 2Moons exists in a dangerous world, and even other players cannot be trusted. Friendly PvP battles (though offering nothing in the way of advancement) can be some of the funnest things you will ever do in this game.
This game is about COMBAT. It is not about exploration. There is no crafting to speak of, only an upgrading system built around just improving your gear either making you harder to kill or making you more deadly in battle. There are teleporters in virtually every zone that will instantly bring you where you need to go. This game doesn't jerk you around with long travel times, you can get to places quickly with little hassle.
